Judo At The 2000 Summer Olympics – Women's 70 kg
These are the results of the women's 70 kg (also known as ''middleweight'') competition in judo at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. A total of 22 women qualified for this event, limited to jūdōka whose body weight was less than, or equal to, 70 kilograms. Competition took place in the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre on 20 September. Competitors Main bracket The gold and silver medalists were determined by the final match of the main single-elimination bracket. Repechage The losing semifinalists as well as those judoka eliminated in earlier rounds by the four semifinalists of the main bracket advanced to the repechage. These matches determined the two bronze medalists for the event. Sydney Convention And Exhibition Centre
The Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre was a convention, exhibition and entertainment complex in Darling Harbour, Sydney. Designed by Philip Cox, the complex opened in 1988 as part of an urban renewal and redevelopment of the Darling Harbour area during the period. The complex was eventually demolished in 2013 to make way for the International Convention Centre. History Built by Leighton Contractors, the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre (SC&EC) opened in 1988, with a new section of the centre added for the 2000 Summer Olympics. During those games, the venue played host to the boxing, fencing, judo, weightlifting, and wrestling competitions. Masae Ueno
is a Japanese judoka who competed in the Athens 2004 Olympics and the Beijing 2008 Olympics. Ueno was born in Asahikawa Hokkaidō. In 2004, she earned Japan's fifth Olympic Gold Medal in ten events, taking the 70 kg women's judo event. She also won the Olympic Gold Medal in 2008. Yuliya Valeryevna Kuzina (also Yulia Kuzina, russian: Юлия Валерьевна Кузина; born 25 October 1976, in Orsk, Orenburg Oblast) is a Russian judoka, who played for the middleweight category. She won a bronze medal for the 63 kg division at the 2004 European Judo Championships in Bucharest, Romania.
